EPT Berlin: Kitai Becomes Poker’s Fifth Triple Crown Winner

25/04/2012 00:08

Davidi Kitai has had one epic week! Not only has he become the first Belgian EPT Champion, but the win also finalized a position in one of poker’s most exclusive clubs: the Triple Crown.

Kitai won a WSOP bracelet back in 2008 for the $2k Pot-Limit Hold’em event and was the 2011 WPT LA Poker Classic, as well. Only four other players have earned a Triple Crown win and they include Jake Cody, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe.

Canadian pro Andrew Chen came very close to winning his first EPT title with his third final table appearance. When the head’s-up portion started, they were fairly even in chips with Kitai holding a small advantage. Both players decided to make a deal where they would both earn €613,000 and play for the remaining €80,000.  The chip lead fluctuated between the two competitors frequently throughout the course of play, but Kitai would capture all the chips in the end.

Here’s the results from the final table:

  1. Davidi Kitai – €712,000
  2. Andrew Chen – €613,000
  3. André Morath – €290,000
  4. Mario Puccini – €220,000
  5. Bahadir Kilickeser – €172,000
  6. César García – €133,000
  7. Marc Wright – €97,000
  8. Pratyush Buddiga – €72,000
